I know some people might be surprised because they might not have heard of this album due to the low publicity which the film received during its release back in May. However, "I Am" is a complete album by Amit Trivedi as he delivers experimental 'Saye Saye', 'Baangur', and 'Wundoo Yeredoo'. The other three tracks are extremely soulful and well sung by the singers KK ('Issi Baat Pe' and 'Bhojhal Se') and Karthik ('Aakhein'). Overall, this was one of the few albums released so far this year which every song was good or excellent.
#4 (Dum Maaro Dum - Pritam)
"Dum Maaro Dum" deserves to be recognized even though 'Mit Jaaye Gham' was a slight disappointment to our ears however the song still became a rage during the first half of this year. The other songs in the album are commendable because of Pritam's experimentation and the bravado which the singers were able to deliver. Most notable is Papon in 'Jiyein Kyun'. Overall, this album is one of the best so far because of the new sounds which Pritam delivered and because of the very popular track 'Mit Jaaye Gham'.
#3 (Delhi Belly - Ram Sampath)
I know some people are going to appeal that "Delhi Belly" should be on the top of the chart because of 'DK Bose', 'I Hate You' and 'Switty Tera Pyaar' however there were other songs in the album that were not upto par with those songs. The first of those songs is 'Nakkadwaley Khisko', even though this was an experimental song it was unbearable to listen on repeat. The same could be said of 'Saigal Blues' which was absolutely a painful listen. 'Bedardi Raja' and 'Tera Siva' were good songs but did not become as popular as they were overshadowed by the hit songs in the album. Overall, the 3 hit songs and 2 very good songs made 'Delhi Belly' #3 album of the year so far.
#2 (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy)
"ZNMD" was a fresh album by SEL who has been recently rehashing beats from their previous songs however this album was completely original. From the catchy 'Dil Dhadkane Do', 'Sooraj Ki Bahon Mein' and 'Ik Junoon' to the soft 'Khaabon Ke Parindey' and 'Der Lagi Lekin' and then the sing-along tune 'Senorita' this album had something for everyone while at the same time being classy and original. A job well done by SEL.
#1 (Ready - Pritam)
"Ready" was BY FAR the best album to release so far this year. Every single song was a gigantic hit. 'Character Dheela' got us dancing at the clubs, 'Humko Pyaar Hua' got us singing to our lovers, 'Dhinka Chika' got us singing and dancing on the streets, and 'Meri Ada Bhi' got us shaking our legs at the summer weddings. Yes I agree that this was a complete massy album but it was the only album this year where I didn't find myself skipping a track after the first listen.
Note that only albums from films released from the Jan 1st 2011 to Jul 29th 2011 were included in this list so albums such as 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan', 'Mausam', 'Bodyguard', and 'Aarakshan' were not included.

1. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan - KK 4.5/5

4. Isq Risk - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 3/5
5. Madhubala - Ali Zafar, Shweta Pandit 3.5/5
6. Do Dhaari Talwar - Shahid Mallya, Shweta Pandit 4/5
7. Choomantar (Remix) - Benny Dayal, Aditi Singh Sharma
8. Isq Risk (Risky Remix) - Shreeramchanda, Neha Bhasin, Joshilay
'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' is very catchy start to the album. KK is excellent in this masala rendition that is a fusion of pop beats and dholak. The line 'Soniye mere jaaneve' is sung beautifully.
'Dhunki' is a full out rock song that introduces Katrina Kaif in the film. The electronic guitar intro and the Neha Bhasin's entrance into the song are absolutely remarkable. The song loses that energy after the intial portions but nonetheless it's a headbanging song that shows the talent of Neha Bhasin and the composer Sohail Sen.
'Choomantar' is a nice song with a skipping tempo that is really hummable. The babyish background singing is something which I haven't heard in Bollywood for a while, truly original by Sohail Sen. The piano in the chorus line is excellent along with the singing by Benny Dayal and Aditi Singh Sharma.
'Isk Risk' is a typical Rafat Fateh Ali Khan qawalli type song. If you are an RFAK fan you will like this song but to others you might be skipping this song despite the nice orchestration in the song. However, it is still a good song.
'Madhubala' has the duo of Ali Zafar and Shweta Pandit. I expected the song to be like 'Akh Ladiye' from "Neal N Nikki" however the song starts with beats like 'Kacchi Kaliyan' from "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag". The song is fast paced and definitely meant to be a dance number but it falls short of being the next 'Munni' or 'Sheila'. Ali Zafar is good but outshines Shweta Pandit in this song.
'Do Dhaari Talwar' is another fast paced song meant to be a dance number and this time I think Sohail Sen has got it right. The song starts with the violins that you hear in the trailers and goes into full desi mode with a slew of Indian instruments.
Overall, a very good album by Sohail Sen. This album proves that he should do the music for more films since he is talented and versatile.
