#5 Tanu Weds Manu - Krsna
Before the start of 2011 no one had any idea who the music composer for the R Mahadevan and Kangna Ranaut starrer was and even when the poster listed the name Krsna next to the word Music I was still clueless as who Krsna is and if he would be able to deliver a good soundtrack to the promising film. However when the first promos of 'Sadi Galli' and the album released I was pleased with the debut of the composer. He gave a little of everything with a little experimentation. Expect this album to be on the Best Albums of the Year countdown and to hear more from Krsna.
#4 Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge - Raghu Dixit
When Y-Films had their production launch earlier this year and revealed Raghu Dixit as the composer for MFK I was not aware that he has composed in the past for B-grade flicks like Quick Gun Murugan so I was skeptical as to the outcome of the films music. However, when the music for MFK released I heard the reason why Y-Films roped in Raghu to compose for the youth centric film. The album was peppy, catchy, and hip which fulfills the requirements for a youth film.
#3 Jo Hum Chahein - Sachin Gupta
We all remember Sachin Gupta's Prince last year but who would've thought that his second filmy album would be from a new production house with a new director and new cast! Even more who would've thought that he would create some hit tracks for the film since composers who work with a new crew deliver rehashed tunes. 'Aaj Bhi Party' and 'Ishq Hoton Se' have become surprise hits in the last few weeks and even the recently released promo of 'Peepni' have struck a chord. Definitely a big surprise of an album and I wouldn't be surprised if the film does well at the box office.
#2 Delhi Belly - Ram Sampat
I know I shouldn't have been surprised from a film produced by Aamir Khan but when the first promo of the film aired last January there were reports of the film being songless and again when the promo for 'DK Bose' released I thought maybe this is just a promotional song and the film is truly songless. But when reports of Imran Khan shooting for a qawalli and then eventually the album released I was stunned by the product of Ram Sampat even though he is not new to Bollywood. Who would've thought hit songs like 'Switty' and 'I hate You' would be coming from a film that would not have songs!
#1 Shor In The City - Sachin-Jigar
Choosing between Shor and Delhi Belly was difficult as they both surprised but what edged Shor ahead was the fact that I didn't even know the film was in production until when the promotions actually started for the film. What surprised me more is that this was Balaji Production's first film from the massive musical hit Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and since I thought the film's success was just a fluke for Balaji I didn't expect anything from Shor In The City. However, Sachin-Jigar delivered the soulful 'Saibo' and the rocking 'Karma', 'Deema Deema', 'Shor' which allowed the film to get noticed by audiences and appreciated by listeners.
