Mega Release of the Month - Rockstar
This month's "Mega Release" was a two film race between "Desi Boyz" and "Rockstar" and it was fairly an easy decision to choose between the two films so here are the reasons why "Rockstar" was chosen over "Desi Boyz" as the must watch film of the month.
The Music
A.R. Rahman has delivered some of his best works that and powerful and rocking. Some has acclaimed this album as being his best album since Dil Se and even the best album of the 2000's. While the latter might be far fetched one thing is for sure is that the album has been appreciated and the song 'Sadda Haq' has become a rage. "Desi Boyz" on the other hand has Pritam composing some of his typical desi flavored tunes that are peppy and massy but are songs which might be labelled played today forgotten tomorrow.
The Director
"Rockstar" is directed by prominent director Imtiaz Ali who has in the past years delivered some of the highest grossers and critically acclaimed film, notably "Love Aaj Kal" and "Jab We Met." "Desi Boyz" is directed by the son of David Dhawan, Rohit Dhawan which might have brought news to the industry back in the 1990's but the times have changed and David Dhawan is not as powerful as he once was when he dominated with comedic films in the 1990's and early 2000's. Still one expects Rohit to deliver a film that is funny but it is still unknown if the style will be reminiscent of his father's.
The Stars
"Desi Boyz" actually has an advantage here because of the combo of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham which hasn't been together since the 2005 Diwali hit "Garam Masala". However, both actors have recently seen a string of flops, yes "Force" flopped, so the audience might be apprehensive in heading to watch their film for that reason alone. "Rockstar" is Ranbir Kapoor's only film of this year so his fans will flock to catch him on the screen because the next opportunity might be until May 2012 when "Barfee" releases. However, Ranbir's massy fan base might not be so receptive of the Rock theme of the film as it a very urban theme. The ladies in both films are irrelevant as "Rockstar" is a male centric film but Nargis Fakhri looks like a fairly good actress. Deepika Padukone hasn't had a successful film since "Housefull" even though she released 4 films since but she overacts so her presence will be annoying to watch.
With the reasons stated "Rockstar" is the must watch film of November 2011 as it has great music and a dependable director.
