Heroine - Music Review

Music by: Salim-Sulaiman

The album starts with one of the best item songs I've heard this year Halkat Jawani. The song starts with a bang through the strumming of the guitar and the tunes from the harmonium. The feel of the song is very desi and acclaim has to be given to Sunidhi who infuses a great deal of energy. Definitely one of the best songs this year.

There isn't much that comes to mind listening to Saiyaan. It tries hard to fall out of the standard RFAK song by the cello solo but it still sounds like a song I've heard before. It's a soft song with a slow melody which is supported by the dholak and the chiming of bells in the background. It doesn't make much impression on me.

Main Heroine Hoon sounds like a typical Salim-Sulaiman song mixed with Honeymoon Ki Raat from THE DIRTY PICTURE. The melody and pace is different but Aditi Singh Sharma's deliverance of the lyrics bears resemblance to Sunidhi Chauhan. Somehow the song sounds like a part of a dramatic Hollywood musical.

Before Shreya Ghoshal starts singing, the piano piece sounds a bit like Mar Jawan from FASHION. Then as Shreya starts to sing even that begins to sound like FASHION. The similarities end when the song breaks into a ballad. The chorus line is impactful as the supporting singers in the background give support to the crescendo of the song. The guitar solo doesn't really stand out.

Tujhpe Fida starts to sound like a remixed club tune. The pairing of the singers in the song doesn't really fit the song as they seem to clash. The techno and the auto tuning of the song seems very average and falls flat of giving an impression. On a side note, Subha Hone Na De from DESI BOYZ is the only song which I think was successful recently in giving the club sound in Indian music.

Overall, if you are a Salim-Sulaiman fan you will want the whole album as it fits their template well if not Halkat Jawani and Saaiyaan are recommended. The others you can wait for the promos or watch the film to see if you like them.

Halkat Jawani – Sunidhi Chauhan 9/10
Saaiyaan – Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 7/10
Main Heroine Hoon – Aditi Singh Sharma 5/10
Khwahishein – Shreya Ghoshal 5/10
Tujhpe Fida – Benny Dayal, Shradha Pandit 4/10

Overall: 6.0/10
