Best of Bollywood 2012 - Biggest Musical Surprise

The recognition for Biggest Musical Surprise is given to the film whose music has caught Bollywood off guard and as becoming popular and having great sounding tracks.

#5 - Shanghai (Vishal-Shekhar)
A medium budget political drama does not usually have great music but the haunting melody of Dua and the anthem Bharat Mata Ki Ji were stunners in the album especially from Vishal-Shekhar as they have mostly done massy youth films.

#4 - Kahaani (Vishal-Shekhar)
Yes, Vishal-Shekhar bravo! They have shown a great range in talent with this album which had hit stands before Shanghai. The electronic Aami Shoti, the uplifting Tore Bina, and the soulful Ekla Chalo Re were the gems of the album.

#3 - Vicky Donor (Abhishek-Akshay, Bann, Rochak Kohli, Ayushmann Khurrana)
I had no expectations for this film nor its music but wow I was wrong when I heard Pani Da Rang. The song is a GIANT reason why the album was a surprise for this year. The other songs are also excellent with Kho Jaane Do, Rum Whisky, and Mar Jayian.

#2 - Barfi (Pritam)
This album was pure magic as it didn't resort to item numbers or sufi love songs. Pritam proved he can belt out melodies as well as chartbusters.

#1 - Gangs of Wasseypur (Sneha Khanwalker)
Mind blowing would be an understatement for this album. It took the industry at a giant surprise with its funky tunes and innovative sounds.

Honorable Mentions: English Vinglish (Amit Trivedi), London Paris New York (Ali Zafar)
