Before I start the review I must say that I will not be judging this album in comparison to its predecessor unlike other reviewers. I will also not be rating the instrumentals despite them being outstanding.
The electronic Chi Chha Ledar is a great start to the album thanks to the rustic appeal of Durga's voice plus the hint of desiness to the composition. The repetitiveness is catchy and the disco beats resonates long after you first listen to the song.
Kaala Rey is a dark addition to the album. The bass and cello pair perfectly against Sneha Khanwalker's voice. The crescendos in the song with the violin adds to the drama and darkness of the song.
Electric Piya is a fun song with a definite Caribbean Chutney music flavor. The pace of the drums of the song is something not usually heard in Bollywood which makes it one of the most unique songs I've heard in a while.
Taar Bijli is a much reserved slower folkish song which fits the classical template. This one is not as fun as Electric Piya but its a great casual listen just because its a type of song that rarely comes around in todays age.
Aabroo starts somewhat like a qawalli with some dialogue. The song picks up with great fanfare with tuba, various flutes and drums. As a standalone song, I do not find Aabroo special and may recommend skipping if you don't like qawallis.
Moora reminds me of 60s American compositions because of the strumming of the guitars and banjo in the intro. It is very light on the ears and makes it a pleasant listen.
KKL is a mixup of Keh Ke Lunga from the first album and heavy electronic sounds. It actually spoils the original for me so I do not recommend KKL.
Overall, Gangs of Wasseypur 2 offers a diverse set of songs which has sounds not usually heard in Bollywood.
